Top club sides in the Nigeria Premier League, namely Shooting Stars, Rangers International, Kwara United and others may soon be sanctioned.
On Friday, the NPL board gave clubs without properly constituted management boards up to two weeks to do so or face severe sanctions.
In a letter addressed to all the Premier League clubs chairmen and signed by the Acting Executive Secretary of the league board, Tunji Babalola, the NPL noted that some clubs are being managed without definite management team, thereby violating Article 1.9 of the NPL rules and regulations.
“Following the conclusion of the 2011/2012 registration exercise, the Nigeria Premier League (NPL) records revealed that some clubs are being managed without definite management team hereby violating Article 1,9 of the NPL rules and regulations,” the letter read.
“The NPL also observed that some clubs submitted their registration materials without the endorsement of their State Football Associations as stipulated in Article 1.4 of the rules and regulations,” it continued, adding: “To this effect, the affected clubs are, hereby, given two (2) weeks to constitute their management team otherwise Article 1,9(5) shall be invoked. The Article inter alia states.
“The NPL shall not recognise an interim body or sole administrator set up by any club. Any club violating this provision shall be suspended from the league until a proper management is put in place.”
The offending club will also be fined N1 million payable before the club is re-admitted into the league.
