Solomon Ogbeide, the Head Coach of Sunshine Stars Football Club, says there will be cause to smile by the end of the 2015/2016 Nigeria Professional Football League season.
Ogbeide told newsmen on Saturday in Akure that the club’s supporters and fans would have good reasons to smile.
He spoke at the post-match press conference after their Week 35 match of the competition, which they won 3-1 against Plateau United at the Akure Township Stadium on Saturday.
Ogbeide said: “The team will try to get seven points out of the nine remaining points of the season.”
Dele Olorundare had put Sunshine up in the first minute of the match, before Samad Quadri doubled the scores in the 17th minute.
Kabiru Umar later reduced the deficit for the visitors in the 51st minute, before Olorundare wrapped it up in the 75th minute for 3-1.
John Mafo, the Chairman of the Ondo State Football Agency, said he was happy his team recovered from its winless streak in the previous three matches.
Mafo said: “We experienced a setback when we played against Heartland weeks back. We thought we could recover it in Kano, but we did not.
“Sixty-two points may be needed to win the league, but securing a ticket to play on the continent is not away from our reach. God is already slowing down our opponents as some of them lost today.”
Mafo later said he would advise the club’s players to be dedicated more than before to achieve the set agenda for the season.
Sunshine Stars are now placed fifth on the NPFL log with 50 points from 33 matches.
