Patrick Ngwaogwu, the Assistant Coach of Abia Warriors Football Club, on Monday blamed the team’s 0-1 loss to Sunshine Stars FC of Akure on their inability to fully utilise scoring chances.
The Umuahia-based clubside had lost to their hosts at the Akure Township Stadium in a Match Day 27 fixture of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League on Sunday.
Ngwaogwu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that the team also experienced fatigue, having played against Gombe United on Wednesday.
He said: “It is one of those things. When we lose a match, we learn one or two things from it.
“The players did their best. We played on Wednesday with Gombe and travelled from there to Akure. It was stressful for the players, they are human beings.
“The goal Sunshine Stars scored was controversial because it appeared the referees had conflicting views on it.
“Anyway, we had scoring chances which we failed to utilise, and that is the prize you pay when fail to utilise your opportunities.
“We went to Akure to pick a win but it turned out the other way. It is behind us now and we are already preparing for our next match against Nasarawa United.’’
NAN reports that Abia Warriors are currently 11th on the table with 32 points after 27 matches.
