NPFL super 6: Rangers sure of victory – Ogunbote

Olugbenga Ogunbote, Rangers International Football Club of Enugu Coach, said that the club must finish well at the Nigeria Professional Football League Super Six slated for Lagos from June 4.
Ogunbote made this known to News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Thursday saying that the club must come out among the best three.
NAN reports that the 2018/2019 NPFL super six has been slated to take place in Lagos to determined who wins the league.
He said: “The super six is like a regular league, the important thing is that we are now made to think of who finishes among the top three.
“Our approach to the matches is not going to be too much different from the way we approach the first phase of the league.
“Accept that this one is an important tournament to determine the league champion and that is why we must give it our all.
“Our minimum target is to finish in a position that will be appreciated by all and sundry and that we will be satisfied.”
Ogunbote noted that the club would respect other participating teams in spite of their pedigree.
He said: “I want to respect every team because they deserve to be there and we are talking about the best six clubs in the country.
“When you play other quality club sides, you have to be careful and take your chances.”
The coach said that whoever the club would play first at the tournament did not matter but having a good outing.
He said: “This super six is a long expected tournament that has been given enough publicity.
“Opening the tournament against an oriental derby, Enyimba FC made it so interesting; and if you do not play them first, you will play them later.
“Besides, starting the super six almost after the abridged league is the best option when the players are still on form and not waiting for so long.”
Ogunbote was of the opinion that the tournament would have been played last week so that the pressure on teams would have come and gone.
He said: “To be honest with you, I think it should have been played last week when the players were still fresh from the league.
“I think Rangers players, management and everybody is aware of the importance of the tournament; we are not going to joke with it.
“We have worked enough for it and my joy is that, despite that the teams have been depleted with injury, those free from injury are all on form.”
The gaffer noted that any venue between Lagos State and Kwara is good.
He said: “Right now, Lagos has been chosen and that is the choice of the country. So our duty is to play well and come out with something positive after the tournament.”
Speaking on the injury, Ogunbote said that majority of the injured players were recovering very well and trying to beat the time to the tournament.
He said: “I think that majority of the players are recovering and we will see how many of them that will be ready. I hope we will have sufficient number that will be ready.
“We want players that will do us proud at the tournament and I believe that those coming back from injury will join others to represent us well.”
On the motivation of the players, the coach noted that their motivation at the moment was on re-enforcing their integrity which is at stake.
He was optimistic that Rangers number one supporter, Dr Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, would also motivate the players with material things and words of encouragement at the appropriate time.
