Remo Stars Football Club of Sagamu on Wednesday in Enugu compounded the woes of hosts Rangers International FC in the Nigeria Professional Football League with a 1-1 draw.
The result in the Match Day 16 fixture dampened the defending champions’ hopes of moving away from the bottom of the league table.
Rangers took the lead through Daniel Etoh in the 12th minute, but their joy was cut short in the second period of the match by Ekene Awazie’s 54th minute goal.
Speaking after the match, Remo Stars’ Technical Adviser, Fatai Osho, expressed happiness that his players were able to held their own against the hosts.
Osho said: “We came for the three points at stake, but a draw is not a bad result. So, we take it with good faith considering the status of Rangers in the nation’s league.
“I wish we had won the match, as it was already swinging in our favour. But the home goalkeeper did well to stop our last attempt which would have sealed the game 2-1.”
Osho reserved praises for Rangers’ goalkeeper, Nana Bonsu, for doing a good job for the home team in spite of his team’s attacking efforts.
He also praised the centre referee, Hannah Elaigwu, saying she did a very good job.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Bonsu was making a return to the starting line-up because of the injury Itodo Akor sustained against Katsina United FC on Sunday.
