Seven-time Nigerian league champions, Rangers International FC of Enugu, is targeting a good start as the second round of the 2017/2018 NPFL season rolls off.
The Enugu-based team will on Sunday (today) play away to the “Big Elephants”, Wikki Tourists FC, at their adopted home ground of Jos in the reverse fixture of the Match Day 19 games.
Still savouring the massive 3-0 victory achieved against the Coach Bala Nikyu wards at the “Cathedral”, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu on Match Day 19, the Coach Olugbenga Ogunbote boys would be gunning for the maximum points at stake in this fixture to steady their hopes of realising their set target for the season.
With the inclusion of former Super Eagles attacking sensation, Uche Nwofor, defender Ugonna Uzochukwu and former youth international, Christian Pyagbara, to his squad, Ogunbote has a rich team to select his match day squad from to help him achieve the expectations of the club’s supporters.
Rangers are likely to be without the services of the quartet of Felix Ogbuke, Tayo Fabiyi, James Aiyeyemi and Godwin Zaki, who did well in the previous match day, but will hopefully rely on Nwofor, Pygbara, Uzochukwu and Chigozie Christopher to wreck havoc on the hosts.
Wikki will most likely rely on the attacking prowess of Shammah Tanze, Victor Alegbe, Emmanuel Agwu and Manu Garba to cause the backline of the Enugu side some anxious moments.
In a pre-match interview, Ogumbote said: “We have a team that is well motivated going into the match with Wikki on Sunday in Jos.
“They gave us a good match in the last game, but we were unlucky not to bury some of our chances on that match day and I hope that we are more clinical in front of goal on this match day.
“It will be difficult but I believe that we are good going into this fixture.”
