Hosts Shooting Stars Sports Club on Sunday in Ibadan defeated visiting Rivers United Football Club of Port Harcourt 2-1 in a 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League fixture.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Match Day 6 fixture was tension-soaked.
It saw the home team carry the day after several missed chances.
NAN reports that 3SC would have been six goals up in the first half but missed several goal scoring chances.
3SC had, 18 minutes into the game, secured their first goal through Faleye Sunday.
But the visiting side, from a counter-attack in the 25th minute, equalised through Lukman Mohammed’s header.
In the 66th minute of the game, Jide Apena however set the hosts on the winning path with 3SC’s second goal.
Coach Fatai Amoo later told newsmen that it was a great victory for the 3SC team, adding that they would work hard to sustain the tempo.
Amoo said the team was getting it right and that it was a gradual process that would lead to the desired height.
“We appreciate our teeming fans for their support and patience, and we promise them our best in the other matches ahead,” the 3SC coach said.
