Some criminally minded persons have cloned the official email address of leading online newspaper, Daylight.ng (publisher@daylight.ng).
The newspaper said information reaching it has it that these fraudsters have been using its official email address to send fraudulent, defamatory and libellous email messages to various media houses, especially online publications and unsuspecting Nigerians alike.
The management of Daylight.ng after a thorough investigation raised the alarm on Sunday, asking Nigerians to beware of the undesirable elements who are being trailed for appropriate punishment.
A statement issued by the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Daylight.ng, Azuh Amatus, stated that the criminals had successfully hacked and cloned the official email address of Daylight.ng and used it fraudulently to deceive and manipulate members of the public, especially online newspapers, where Daylight.ng is a dominant force.
Azuh, therefore called on members of the public to disregard any fraudulent email message emanating from the cloned address henceforth.
He said: “We decided to raise the alarm following numerous calls from our colleagues in the media, making inquiries about us sending them fraudulent and defamatory press releases for publications. Our ICT team immediately swung into action and shockingly discovered that our official email had been hacked and cloned by some criminals.
“Daylight.ng is a respected and reliable online newspaper managed by tested and trusted media professionals with proven track records. We adhere strictly to global best practices as a media organisation.
“We want to appeal to our colleagues to disregard any email sent to them with publisher@daylight.ng. It is not from us.
“We are also calling on the relevant law enforcement agencies to assist us in apprehending the criminals behind this nefarious act within the shortest possible time.”
