Nigeria today clearly underperforming, lacks cohesion like never before – Anyaoku

A former Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, had described Nigeria today as clearly underperforming and lacking cohesion as never before.
Anyaoku said this on Tuesday in Lagos at the unveiling of the new logo of the Nigerian Tribune titles and a symposium to herald the 70th anniversary of the newspaper founded by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in 1949.
Anyaoku, who spoke as the Chairman of the symposium, titled: “Electoral Integrity, Legitimacy of Democratic Institutions and Good Governance,” said at the end of his speech: “Ladies and gentlemen, I will like to conclude with a general comment on the issue of governance.
“Judging by all relevant indices, Nigeria today is clearly underperforming and lacking cohesion like never before….
“I will like to end this remark by once again expressing the view that I have expressed on many occasions, namely that if our country is to succeed on the road to political stability, realisation of its rich development potentials, it must by restructuring its present governance architecture.
“It must return to the true federalism that it practiced in the years before the military intervened in our national politics.”
