Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger has commiserated with victims of patrol tanker explosion which occurred around Diko-junction on the Abuja-Kaduna highway on Friday night.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that a patrol tanker explosion killed three persons, injured eight and burnt down several vehicles and shops around Diko-junction on Friday night.
Bello, in a press statement by Mary Berje, described the incident as “unfortunate and heartbreaking to see the lives of innocent people lost as a result of the recklessness of an individual”.
He decried the activities of articulated vehicle drivers that park indiscriminately and warned that the state government would no longer condone such illegalities.
He said: “It is quite unfortunate that the accident happened. As government, we are pained to see the lives of our people being cut short, especially as a result of recklessness of drivers.
“We will enforce all necessary laws with regards to illegal motor parks and other activities on the highways.|
“I have therefore directed that the illegal park where the accident took place and other illegal motor parks and markets in the state be cleared off. We will ensure that our laws are enforced.”
The governor directed the state Emergency Management Agency to conduct assessment on the incident to ascertain the level of damages done.
Similarly, Alhaji Ahmed Inga, Director General of NSEMA, who visited the scene of the accident, said financial assistance would be provided to the survivors to enable them undergo medical treatment.
He gave the assurance that the agency would carry out assessment on the incident and submit the report to the governor.
