Niger donates, commissions NAWOJ Secretariat

The Niger State Government has on Friday constructed, donated and Commissioned a state of the art Secretariat to the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists.
The Wife of the Niger State Governor, Dr. Amina Bello, commissioned the state secretariat, which was constructed by the state government through the Sustainable Development Goals in Minna.
While Commissioning the secretariat, Dr. Bello encouraged members of NAWOJ to leverage on creative talents to advance the dissemination of facts and solutions for Sustainable Development Goal 16.
She said: “The SDG 16 seeks to promote peaceful and inclusive societies, ensuring public access to information and protecting fundamental freedoms among others.
“I am optimistic that with the support from government, there would be increased mutual relationship between the media and government agencies for prompt and balanced reportage.
“You should take the opportunity provided by this new edifice and improved facilities to update and upgrade your knowledge and skills for enhanced delivery of your responsibilities.”
Earlier, Ifeyinwa Omoyele, National President of NAWOJ, commended the state leadership of NAWOJ, saying the secretariat is the first of its kind in the North Central zone.
Omoyele, who was represented by Hajiya Jamila Abubakar, Vice President, Zone D, called on other state governments to emulate Niger State to provide befitting secretariats for women journalists working in their states.
She said: “We commend the Niger State Government for acknowledging the role female journalists have been playing in the state with its reward in the edifice donated.
“I am calling on other Governors in the zone to emulate the Niger State Governor.”
She said the association would continue to use various media platforms to mirror the society by exposing social ills, especially human trafficking, sexual abuse and child labour among others.
Earlier, the Director General, SDG, Alhaji Abdullahi Arah, urged the association to maintain the structure and gave assurance of sustaining the partnership with NAWOJ.
In her remark, Mary Berje, the state Chairperson of NAWOJ, commended the state government and SDG for the structure, assuring that NAWOJIANS will ensure maintenance of the secretariat.
