Despite efforts by government to ensure the safety of boat travellers, two persons have lost their lives in a boat mishap at Malale village in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The Head of Relief and Rehabilitation of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Garba Salihu, disclosed this on Wednesday in Minna, the state capital.
It should be recalled that the past administration had instructed that all boat travellers use safety jacket before embarking on any water trip.
Salihu told journalists that the deceased are from Tungan Sule village.
He said the driver of the boat survived the accident.
Salihu added that the deceased were Suleiman Ajibola and Taofik Adeyemi, who reside in New Bussa town of the area.
According to him: “The state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Bello, has condoled with the bereaved family and directed the that appropriate recommendation on post disaster recovery be made immediately.”
He added that the agency has taken measures to bring succour to the families of the deceased.
