The executive board of the Nigeria Football Federation has threatened to drag the Chairman of the Nigeria Nationwide League, Alhaji Ahmed Kawu, for forensic examination if he fails to withdraw, with apology, his allegation that his signature was forged in the process that led to the removal of a former President of the NFF, Alhaji Aminu Maigari.
Kawu had disassociated himself from Maigari’s impeachment as the president of the federation when he spoke with newsmen.
He alleged that his signature endorsing the impeachment was forged.
He said: “I want to put it on record that my signature for the impeachment of Aminu Maigari was forged.
“I’m not the one who wrote my name neither is it my signature.
“I want to make it clear to the media that I will challenge the forging of my signature.
“I will certainly take legal action about it but I will have to do some consultations.”
However, reacting angrily to the purported signature forgery, a board member and Chairman of Chairmen, Chief Johnson Effiong, warned Kawu to withdraw the allegation with apology or be ready for forensic examination to ascertain the authenticity of his claims.
Effiong insisted that Kawu signed the impeachment voluntarily, explaining that they had given him several sins of the impeached NFF president before he willingly signed.
Effiong said nobody compelled him to sign.
He said: “We were very surprised to read Kawu alleging that his impeachment signature was forged.
“My advice to him is to watch his utterances or better shut up his mouth.
“If he does not withdraw the allegation, we are going to drag him to forensic examination to ascertain the authenticity of his claims.
“If he loves himself, he should urgently withdraw the claim with apology.
“After going through the allegations against Maigari, he willingly appended his signature without any coercion from anybody.
“It is not true that Kawu contested his inclusion and signature.
“What happened was that he ran away from the boardroom out of shame when a board member expressed surprise for signing the impeachment despite his closeness to Maigari.
“He did not continue the meeting with us.
“We insist he must withdraw the forgery claim or risk forensic examination.”
