Ex-international and member of the Electoral Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, Patrick Pascal, has craved for due process and transparency in the body’s forthcoming executive board elections.
Pascal, in a telephone chat with The Eagle Online on Sunday, believes Nigerian football can only develop if the election processes are transparent in order for people who are passionate about football to come on board.
He said: “We have so far witnessed a kangaroo electioneering process and I believe some people are trying to affect our football with ‘ebola’ and these ‘jabulani-like’ people should be flushed out of the system.
“Before the return of Aminu Maigari, lots of people were denied the opportunity to pick election forms and the time given was too short for those that got forms to seek for endorsements in their zones.
“As a member of the committee, I can categorically inform you that we had no office where people can come to pick forms and also lodge complains and that is why they disqualify some people today and tomorrowthey are okayed for the elections.
“For your information, none of the then NFF acting president or the minister has the power to inaugurate the electoral committee when it was reconstituted and this is because they are not recognised by FIFA.
“For me, they should have thrown the process open if they are popular and stop denying people of their legitimacy.
Pascal was an Atlanta ’96 Olympics gold medallist.
Meanwhile, uncertainty still beclouds the NFF elections as those in the corridors of power have ordered that the exercise be carried out on Tuesday in Abuja as against the Warri, Delta State, which was earlier agreed.
