NDE trains 750 unemployed youths in Borno

The National Directorate of Employment has trained 750 unemployed youths in Borno State in different skills to make them self-reliant.
The Borno State NDE Coordinator, Malam Wakil Kalanga, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri on Sunday.
Kalanga said the youths were trained under three programmes – vocational skills development, basic skills acquisition and special public works.
He said under the vocational skill development, 50 people were trained in fashion designing and tailoring, welding and metal fabrication, satellite installation, plumbing and tiles fixing.
He added: “We also trained 120 youths under the basic skills acquisition programme such as knitting, vulcanizing, tailoring, welding, computer operation, GSM repairs, catering, shoes and leather works.”
Kalanga said 50 youths were trained under special public works programme such as environmental beautification, production and fixing of interlocks, tree planting and Plaster of Paris.
Kalanga pointed out that the trainees were awaiting the N50,000 grant from the NDE to start their businesses.
He said the NDE was also providing lessons for 275 secondary school levers who failed their Ordinary Level examination to enable them retake their papers.
