The National Association of Women Journalists has honoured the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State, Mrs. Funmi Wakama, with the Woman of the Media award.
The association conferred the award on the first female Chief Press Secretary appointed by Amosun on Friday at the end of its National Executive Council meeting at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta.
Also honoured at the event were the First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun; the Chief Judge of the State, Hon. Justice Tokunbo Olopade; and Justice Oluwatosin Osinuga.
Speaking at the event, the National President of NAWOJ, Mrs. Asabe Baba-Nahaya, commended the tremendous support given to the association by the administration of Amosun, especially the administration’s success in the area of women empowerment.
In his goodwill speech, Amosun reiterated the determination of his administration to develop the state by maximising the potentials of its women folk.
He said his government had gone beyond the 35 per cent affirmative action of Beijing Declaration for women in government.
The governor commended the initiatives of NAWOJ and promised his administration’s readiness to support them.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Wakama congratulated NAWOJ for a successful NEC meeting and thanked members for the honour done to them.
She dedicated the award to Amosun and members of his administration.
