Hon. Rasak Atunwa, the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, on Wednesday said that the proposed national dialogue was “ill-timed”.
Atunwa told journalists in Ilorin that although the idea was desirable, the timing was wrong.
He said that a dialogue of such nature was better convened at the beginning of a new administration.
The speaker said that the country soon be embroiled in electioneering, adding that Nigerians would not have time for any dialogue.
He, therefore, advised the National Assembly not to abandon the ongoing constitution review and urged it to expeditiously come out with a new constitution for the country.
On the strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the speaker urged the Federal Government and the university teachers to resolve their grievances in order to allow the return of academic activities to the universities.
He said that strike should a last resort and must be used sparingly.
Atunwa appealed to the parties in dispute to resolve the differences for the sake of the Nigerian students, who were future leaders of the country.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, for restoring the security details of a former Governor of the state, Senator Bukola Saraki.
Atunwa equally expressed appreciation to the Commissioner of Police in the state, Agboola Oshodi-Glover, for restoring his details.
