N1m Egba in diaspora scholarship for 14 indigent students

Smiles will on Saturday in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, flow freely on the lips of 14 indigent Egba students in higher institutions as they benefit from a N1 million scholarship programme instituted by the Egbas in diaspora.
A socio-cultural group based in the US and Canada, the Egba National Association, is giving out the money as part of its contributions to its home community of Egbaland, within the six local government areas of the Gateway State.
The presentation of the cheques to the lucky students, who are in various higher institutions in Nigeria, will hold at the historic Centenary Hall, Ake, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
The beneficiaries include Kamil Adebayo (HND 2 Architecture – Abeokuta North LG), Oderinde Omolola (HND 2 Accounting – Abeokuta South LG), Egunjobi Kamaru (ND 2 Business Management – Abeokuta North LG), Nurudeen Oladayo (HND 2 Estate Management – Abeokuta North LG), Badmus Olawale (ND 2 Mass Communication – Abeokuta South LG) and Olanrewaju Adewale (ND Marketing – Abeokuta South LG), all students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
Others include Adedayo Adeleke (100 level Banking and Finance – Abeokuta North LG) and Oluwafunmi Adeleke (100 level Law – Abeokuta North LG), both of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye; Adeaga Abayomi (100 level Nursing – Abeokuta North LG), Obafemi Awolowo University; Adewuyi Temitayo (100 level Psychology – Abeokuta North LG), University of Ibadan; Olabode Olajide (200 level Building Technology – Abeokuta South LG), Federal University of Technology; Kusimo Abubakar (300 level Business Education – Odeda LG), Mufutau College of Education; Kupoluyi Damilare (400 level Nutrition and Dietetics – Abeokuta South LG), Federal University of Agriculture; and Oyetunji Mayowa (400 level Agricultural Engineering – Abeokuta South LG), Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso.
The event, which will be attended by the Chairman of ENA, Toyin Oladipo, is part of the activities to mark the grand finale of this year’s Lisabi Day, Rev. Sunday Gbajobi, the General Secretary of ENA, which comprises of Egba and Yewa indigenes in diaspora, said.
According to a statement signed by Chief Femi Shodunke, the President of Olumo Progressive Association, Canada Inc, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun; the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Gbadebo Adedotun, who is the ENA Grand Royal Patron; and Egba high chiefs, among others, will witness the presentation, which is the first by the association.
“The total fund to be disbursed is N1 million,” Gbajobi said. “And this is the first phase for Egba indigenes, but we are coming up with similar scholarship scheme for Yewa indigent students too.”
He added: “It is part of ENA outreach project to assist outstanding students of Egba and Yewa origins in various higher institutions in their academic pursuit who are having financial difficulty.
“The presentation is part of activities for the grand finale of this year’s Lisabi Day with the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, in attendance, and it is during the ceremony that the presentation will come up.”
