Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel has pledged that his government would not change prayer arrangements at a disputed Muslim-Jewish holy site in Jerusalem.
Netenyahu said on Sunday in Tel Aviv during a meeting with his cabinet members that government was committed to preserving the status quo for all religions.
Netanyahu said the stand had become imperative because it was easy to light a religious fire but difficult to quench it.
“What is needed now is to calm tempers,” he said.
Tensions in Jerusalem have risen after a Palestinian shot and wounded a far-right Jewish activist, Yehuda Glick, recently.
Glick was said to be soliciting Jewish prayer rights on Temple Mount and the Holy Sanctuary among Muslims.
