The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria has urged Nigerians to support the ongoing reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying they are meant to steer the country to economic prosperity.
The President of MUSWEN, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, made the appeal in a statement he issued on Monday in Abuja.
Oladejo said it was necessary for Nigerians to show understanding and exercise more patience as the government was providing lasting solutions to the current biting economic hardship.
He said the current hardship was a result of long years of policy failures of previous administrations, which Tinubu had been making efforts to correct in the last 10 months.
He, therefore, urged Nigerians to exercise more patience to allow the reforms to bear fruits for the good of all.
Oladejo said it was a divine injunction that wherever there was hardship, the Almighty would provide relief to those who were patient.
He said that MUSWEN recognised that some of the pains “are the collateral consequences of some of the remedial actions taken by the Tinubu administration”, but added that the actions were necessary to correct the mistakes of the past.
“We believe that the actions are categorical necessities as the country could no longer run on the pretentious policies of the past,” he said.
According to him, Tinubu took bold economic and political decisions to save Nigeria’s economy from total collapse.
Oladejo listed some of the policies taken by the government to include the removal of petrol subsidy, dismantling of the forex cabal, and planned implementation of the Stephen Oronsaye report on civil service reforms.
He added that the various bilateral agreements entered with several countries by the government would attract Direct Foreign Investment to shore up the economy and make things better for Nigerians.
“What the situation demands now is a little more patience from Nigerians, as there is surely light at the end of the tunnel,” Oladejo said.

The MUSWEN president appealed to affluent Nigerians to support the less privileged, especially in this holy period of Ramadan.
He also enjoined Nigerians to pray for God to guide the country’s leaders to take the country out of the current harsh economic situation.
