The Chief Imam and Chairman, League of Alfas in Ekiti State, Alhaji Jamiu Kewulere, has warned the Ekiti State Governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose, against persecuting political opponents in his second coming as governor.
Kewulere gave the advice in his sermon on Friday during a Ju’mat service at the Central Mosque in Ado Ekiti, which was attended by Fayose and stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Alhaji Kewulere advised: “It is God that removes and installs a leader.
“Election is like a war and only one person would win.
“So, I advise the governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, not to persecute anybody.
“It has never happened like this in Ekiti.
“For somebody to be removed from office and come back again.
“This is the first time.
“It is not the rice or money that you are giving to the poor that won the election.
“It is God that implanted your love in their hearts.
“So it was God that did the miracle for you and you have to be grateful by being fair to everybody, regardless of political or religious leaning.”
Kewulere pleaded with the ex-governor to give the Muslims a fair share in his political appointments for political balancing in the state.
Fayose while addressing the congregation, said Ekiti State would witness peace and stability in his second coming, pointing out that this is not the time for him to scheme vengeance against those worked for his downfall while in the saddle between 2003 and 2006.
He said: “If somebody like me, who was once impeached, is now being given a solid support by the people, I have nothing to do than to thank God.
“So, this is not a time for me to start chasing anybody around.
“In his second chance, all you need to do is to pray that God should use me to bring development, progress and political stability to Ekiti.
“I know there is a reason for my second coming.
“The stage which Ekiti is today goes beyond winning election.
“I believe it is about how you can use the victory to better the lots of the populace.
“My focus now is how to unite the people and make them feel the impact of government.”
