Mobile police officer arrested for stealing 15 motorbikes

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a mobile police officer for allegedly stealing 15 motorbikes.
The officer, identified as Corporal Sherif Sanni, was said to have been de-mobbed about eight months ago in Yola, Adamawa State Mopol 14 and was supposed to report to his next posting in the Lagos State Command, but never reported.
Rather than report to his new station, Sanni had retained his mobile uniform and had allegedly started using it to rob and dispossess unsuspecting commercial bike riders of their motorbikes.
He was arrested last week by policemen from the Ojota Police Station.
The policemen who arrested him were said to have received a tip-off about his activities and had placed him under surveillance.
When they were sure he was into the illegal business of impounding of motorbikes, they swooped on him.
Sanni is presently being quizzed by the police.
A police source said: “When he was de-mobbed at Yola, he failed to report to his new post, which was Lagos Command.
“He went to stay with his friend at Agbara area of Ogun State.
“It was there he used to seize motorbikes from commercial bike riders.
“He would come down to Ojota to hand the motorbikes to a man who assists him in selling them.”
The man, who assists Sanni in selling the motorbikes, said he had sold at least 15 motorbikes for the policeman, but the policeman insisted that he had only sold seven. Investigators have however recovered three of the stolen motorbikes.
Sanni reportedly told his interrogators: “I don’t use gun to collect the motorbikes.
“I only used to seize it from the owners because of the ban of motorbikes in Lagos State.
“I don’t have any member.
“I operate alone.”
He had further confessed that he refused to report to his new post because “I wanted to work my transfer to a new squadron”.
After being de-mobbed, Sanni was expected to revert to a regular policeman, but he said he enjoys being a mobile policeman.
