There was an uproar in the National Conference over the recommendation of the Conference Committee on Energy to establish a Niger Delta energy corridor as to serve as a veritable tool for the rapid industrialization and diversification of Nigeria’s economy.
While some delegates kicked against the proposal to establish Niger Delta Energy Corridor, others insisted that the energy power plant should be established.
It took explanation of Chief Bode Gorge and some delegates before the conference could agree to reconsider the matter.
Chief Gorge said the establishment of an energy power plant will not only benefit the Niger Delta region only but the whole country, adding that locating the power plant in the zone is as a result of nearness to raw materials.
After the explanation, the question was put again and the delegates accepted the recommendation of the committee that the Niger Delta energy corridor should be established to serve as a veritable tool for the rapid industrialization and diversification of Nigeria economy.
Also, the conference rejected the proposal to phase out generators in all the markets in Nigeria.
In addition, the Conference recommended that state of emergency should be declared in the power sector of the economy in Nigeria.
