The military high command has announced the commencement of the trial of some of its commanders over the loss of men, weapons and locations in the ongoing war against insurgents in the North East.
The commanders were those of the Multi-National Joint Task Force.
Boko Haram insurgents had during a raid on Baga, Borno State, the location of the MNJTF, killed several officers and men and seized weapons, which is being used in the prosecution of their war against Nigeria.
A statement on Friday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade, said the officers must account for their roles in the overrunning of the MNJTF base.
The statement explained that the actions of the officers had led to the loss of weapons, men and location in their sphere of responsibility in the mission area.
It added that the exercise was a normal military procedure in major operations or after encounters.
It said the essence of the procedure was to extract and collate relevant information for subsequent missions.
The statement said that it could also lead to or determine appropriate disciplinary action where necessary.
