Privately-owned and first of its kind in West Africa, Metro Pro League, finally kicked off on Wednesday, with Bridge FC defeating their 36 Lions counterparts by two goals to nil in Week One of the season at the utra-modern Agege Stadium in Lagos State.
The two sides gave themselves so much as it took Bridge FC’s Daniju Lateef to break the deadlock in the 35th minute, which was the first goal of the Metro Pro League.
The interesting contest remained 1-0 in favour of Bridge FC as the referee, Jelili Ogunmuyiwa signalled the end of half time.
36 Lions returned for the second half with a lot of venom but Bridge FC neutralised their forays with another goal through Shittu Babatunde in the 70th minute of the encounter.
Meanwhile, Daniju Lateef, who scored the first ever goal of the Metro Pro League, was voted the man of the match.
The Metro Pro League management, led by Victor Akinyooye, has said that exceptional players will be identified and rewarded on a monthly basis.
Other top clubs taking part in the league are AS Racine, Bolowotan FC, Collins Edwin Sports Club, Yobo FC, Apapa Golden Stars, Nath Boys, Union Bank FC and Remo Stars of Shagamu.
