It was no doubt when the delegates from the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State arrived for the NUGA games hosted by Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, that they were prepared to emerge victorious.
As at press time on Wednesday, they had extended their lead on the medals table.
From swimming alone, they had garnered 15 Gold medals as at close of events on Wednesday.
One of the delegates from UNIPORT, Jibrin Adizat Ekele, in a chat with The Eagle Online, confirmed that they practiced really hard to make sure that they come out in flying colours.
One of the Team Managers, who was also present as at press time, confirmed that they have won Gold medals in almost all the categories, which she listed to include:
Jibrin Adizat (Female) High Jump Gold Medal
Favour Efe (female) Gold Medals in both 400m and 100m Hurdles
Nkem Agbor (male) Gold medal in Judo
Wilson Oriwori (male) Silver in Judo
Hope Nnagbem (Female) Silver in 800m and Adaeze Igwu (female) Gold Medal in 800m
Peace Ukwo (female) Gold 100m
Tendus Okpara (male) Gold medal in Pole vault
Austin Nwonye (male) Gold medal in Shot put
Michael Diete Spiff who won silver medal in the triple jump and Abiola Olajide who won Gold medal in the triple jump as well.
The OAU handball team was beaten by their male counterpart from the University of Nigeria Nsukka 15-9.
Also OAU won Bronze and Silver medals in Badminton.
The school’s team also qualified for the final of the 4x400m relay race in both the male and female categories.
The concluding events in swimming and basketball will hold on Thursday.
