A manager, Timothy Sunday, was on Wednesday docked in a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly misappropriating his employer’s N1m.
The police charged Sunday, who resides in Barnawa, with criminal breach of trust, misappropriation and cheating.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendant, a manager of a company “Prepton Nigeria Limited”, was entrusted with N2.5million by the Managing Director of the company, Kenneth Praise, sometime in October 2020.
The prosecution said the defendant misappropriated N1m from the money and could not give a satisfactory explanation.
He said that during police investigations, N350, 000 was recovered from him.
Leo said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 314, 309 and 321 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The defence counsel, Tony Francis, urged the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
He said that a reliable surety would be provided if his client is granted bail.
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.
Emmanuel ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He also ordered that the surety must present means of identification and adjourned the case until Feb. 3, for hearing.
