Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have arrested eight suspects over alleged kidnapping and banditry in the state.
One of them, Haliru Riskuwa, was arrested for kidnapping his neighbour’s son and taking a N4 million ransom.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Muhammed Gumel, paraded the suspects before newsmen on Tuesday.
Gumel said on December 4, 2022 around 2:35pm, one Suleman Musa reported at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Sokoto that around 2pm, unknown persons conspired and kidnapped his son, Musa Suleman, aged seven, and kept him for four days.
Musa told the police that N4 million ransom was paid before the boy was released.
The CP said: “Painstaking police investigation identified one Haliru Riskuwa, who is a neighbour to the family and popularly known as Lopetee, and he was subsequently arrested.
“According to him, he committed the crime along with one Abdullahi Umar and Faruku Usman Binji.
“All the suspects are in police custody, except Faruk Usman Binji, who is still at large.
“So far, N2.5 million cash has been recovered from the suspects.”
