An 18-year-old man, Sheriff Sulaiman, on Wednesday appeared before a a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, charged with theft of a phone and other valuables, whose value is yet to be ascertained.
The defendant, whose address is unknown, is standing trial on a count of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Ikem Uko told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb.15, at 10:00p.m. at Managere Street, opposite UBA, Badagry, Lagos.
Uko said the defendant allegedly stole one MP3 speaker, two button phones and an Itel P661 Android phone, whose value is yet to be ascertained, property of one Shuaibu Alli, the complainant.
“The defendant entered the shop by breaking the padlock and removed the phones.
“He was later arrested at home with the phones and handed over to the police for prosecution,” he said.
The offence, the prosecutor said, contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adekomaiya adjourned the case until March 27, for mention.
