An Ilorin based legal practitioner, Babatunde Ahmed, has advised politicians in the country to make empowerment a habit and not a campaign tool for election.
Ahmed, who gave the advice in Ilorin Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said empowerment should be consistent and not periodic.
According to him, most politicians are fond of waiting till election period before they embark on empowerment programmes in order to gain favour from the poor masses.
“Make empowerment a habit and consistent action. Stop waiting till election period before you give to the people.

“It is wickedness to wait till the election. Stop using empowerment as a campaign tool. Delaying empowerment is nothing but wickedness.
“Politicians need to change their ways of doing things. If you are in a position to help, try and help within your capacity and stop politicising everything,” he advised.
The lawyer, however, called on politicians to support women, men, young and old in the society.
He also called on government at all levels and NGOs to up their efforts in ensuring more empowerment programmes and palliatives to support the vulnerables in the society.
