Dr. Idiat Adebule, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, on Friday urged parents to ensure that their children and wards resume for the second term on Monday.
Adebule, who is also the state Commissioner for Education, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that this would enable them to reap the benefits of education.
According to her, education is the right tool that can mould individuals and make them to function properly.
She said: “Parents need to give and do all they can do to ensure their children return to school in time.
“Because you still find out that sometimes when schools re-open, some are still at home waiting and saying they will resume next week.
“It should not be like that.
“They should resume promptly because that is the period of revision.
“And if students are not in class during the period of revision, they are likely to lose out on so many things.
“Because now, they are enjoying themselves and as such returning to school in time, at the appropriate time, is the best for them.
“And I also want to enjoin them that it is by the right education that they can function very well within the society.
“So, it is important for them.
“Education, they should see it as compulsory, as something that will improve on their lives, that will bring about the desirable change in their lives.”
According to Adebule, schools have the sole responsibility of imparting a sense of self-respect and confidence on students.
According to her, every student should come out of the school as a person who can stand on his or her own, while contributing his/her bit to the society.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that schools in the state closed for the Christmas and New Year holiday on December 18 and they are billed to resume on January 11.
