A Lekki, Lagos State-based businessman, Cyril Chidiebere, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for involvement in the importation of 12 parcels of Loud, a strain of cannabis, weighing 6.50kg.
He was arrested on April 14, 2023 along with two of his freight agents: Mejabi Peter Sunday and Oyeyinka Babatunde.
The Director of Media and Advocacy of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, who confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday, said the parcel containing the illicit drug was part of a consolidated cargo brought in from the United States of America.
Babafemi said the arrest of Chidiebere, Sunday and Babatunde and seizure of the drug followed a three-day intelligence-led operation.
He said following the arrival of the cargo at the NAHCO import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International airport in Ikeja, Lagos, its movement out of the airport was closely monitored in a sting operation until Chidiebere, the actual importer, was arrested in his house at Abraham Adesanya Estate, Ajah, Lekki area of Lagos.
Both Mejabi and Chidiebere have made useful statements to confirm that the latter has been involved in dealing on illicit drugs in the past.
