Kwara releases additional funds for LG workers’ salaries

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has released N162.9 million to augment the July salary of local government workers in the state.
Alhaji Ademola Banu, the Commissioner for Finance, confirmed this in a statement on Friday in Ilorin.
Banu said the release of the fund showed that the governor had kept to his pledge to help local government councils pay July salaries in full.
He promised that following the approval, the money would be released to the 16 local government councils on Friday to enable them to pay workers promptly.
The commissioner said the governor was also committed to working with the local government chairmen to clear existing salary and pension arrears.
Banu explained that Ahmed also directed the chairmen to hold monthly meetings with stakeholders in their various communities in the interest of transparency.
He further explained that such meetings should be on details of federation allocation and the utilisation plan should be discussed openly.
