The Kwara State Government is to establish a Sports Endowment Fund to enable sports men and women access to grants for training and participation in global competitions and emerge as champions.
Kwara State Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed disclosed this when he unveiled the logo of the maiden Kwara State Sports Summit saying that the summit was designed to reposition and revolutionize sports in the state.
Gov. Ahmed said sports administrators, technocrats and commentators from across the country would be expected to use the summit to brainstorm and fashion a roadmap during the summit to robust professional sports in the state.
“It is our believe that this summit will not only harness the great sporting potentials available in the state but also help in identifying modules that could help in driving private sector participation, particularly in the areas of infrastructural development and robust sponsorship”, he noted.
The Governor also expressed the hope that the summit would come up with programmes that will promote greater youth participation in sports for the state to regain its lost glory in sports
The State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Prince Saeed Popoola , in his remarks said the summit will provide a template for sports development in the state.
According to Prince Popoola the summit which will hold from 23rd to 25th of this month is expected to have in attendance those he called pan Nigerian dignitaries.
