Keshi’s pay remains intact, thanks to contract

Contrary to widely reported salary cut of the national team coaches and back room staffs, Super Eagles Chief Coach, Stephen Keshi, is to enjoy full pay.
Thanks to his well documented contract, Keshi is not affected in the latest pay cut imposed one the employees of the Nigeria Football Federation.
Competent sources in Abuja quoted Emeka Inyama, Head of the Media Committee of the NFF, as saying that the committee lacks the power to cut Keshi’s pay.
“Of all the coaches, only Keshi was properly contracted. So, it will be difficult to now cut his pay since that clause was not included in the contract,” Inyama reportedly said on Wednesday.
Efforts to reach Keshi proved abortive as he was said to have traveled to the United States of America on Monday.
But Inyama, in a statement on Wednesday, said the decision to slash the salaries of some staff of the national teams and sack some of them was premised on the state of finance of the NFF.
He said: “The (technical) committee regretted the financial situation that has also necessitated the pegging of bonuses, review of allowances and salaries of coaches of the national teams,” read an official statement from the NFF.
“Based on the parlous financial situation that the Nigeria Football Federation currently finds itself, the committee has also recommended the staff auditing of the technical crew and backroom staff of all the national teams.”
Meanwhile, the NFF has verbally queried Keshi for traveling out of the country to see his family in the US despite his invitation to appear before the technical committee.
Inyama disclosed this when he spoke with newsmen on Wednesday.
He said: “Keshi was officially invited to come and face the technical committee with a view to addressing some salient issues as they affect the team, like his face off with skipper Joseph Yobo, Osaze Odemwingie, his technical report from the Nations Cup, his programmes for the confederation cup and the World Cup qualifiers.
“But gentlemen, what we are seeing is that he deliberately refused to show up and the NFF, his employers, are viewing this seriously.”
