Kano gets N18b from IGR in 2016

The Kano State Government has realized N18 billion from its internally generated revenue from January to date.
The Chairman of Kano State Board of Internal Revenue, Alhaji Sani Dembo, disclosed this on Thursday shortly after he defended the board’s 2017 budgetary allocation at the State Assembly.
Dembo said that in 2015, the board generated N11 billion as Tax Revenue, while N12 billion was realised in 2016.
Dembo said: “Within the 10 month of this year, we also generated non-tax revenue worth N6 billion, making the total of N18 billion generated.”
The Chairman added that some fund recoveries were made which are non-oil revenues which have contributed positively towards the boosting of the state revenue.
He said the current economic recession has engulfed every nook and crannies of the globe which Nigeria and Kano State in particular is not an exception.
He said: “The State Government had introduced harmonisation system which dictates and streamline the revenues of various State ministries and parastatals revenues into one treasury single account.”
According to Dembo, the system will accumulate Tax Revenue and Non-Tax Revenue.
He also cited example that the property Tax is the vital source of revenue accrued globally where every developed country depends heavily.
The board’s Chairman pointed out that Kano State government is preparing to employ more manpower that will assist in on collecting Property Tax in a nearby future.
