There was a mild drama at the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party in Abuja on Monday morning as one of the claimants to the National Chairmanship of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, attempted to take over the running of its affairs.
Sheriff, who spoke with newsmen, said he was at the secretariat, located at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, to resume as the National Chairman of the party.
He said until all the cases that ensued from the crisis rocking the party are over, he remains the leader of the PDP.
However, following the development, more policemen were drafted to block the entrance of the secretariat.
Though there were a few policemen when Sheriff and his ream arrived, more were deployed by the police hierarchy.
While a section of the leadership of the PDP, including the Board of Trustees and members of the NWC Sheriff is claiming to lead, has endorsed the Interim Caretaker Committee put in place after the botched National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Sheriff is still laying claim to the national chairmanship of the party.
The Interim Caretaker Committee is headed by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.
