The Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPC) Mele Kyari has apologized to Nigerians over the importation of toxic fuel, which caused the current scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across major cities in the country.
Kyari, who appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream investigating the importation of adulterated fuel, said NNPC was not aware of the presence of methanol in the fuel imported.
He defended that the loading terminal where the fuel was brought into the country has been supplying gasoline for a very long time, pointing out they have been a major terminal supplying fuel to not only West Africa but to many countries in Europe.
He assured that the NNPC Limited was doing everything possible to ensure that fuel supply across the country is normalized, asking Nigerians to avoid panic purchase of fuel.
Recall that the scarcity which started on a low scale over a week ago, has lingered and worsensed on daily basis, resulting to hike in pump price of the product and panic purchase in some cities like FCT and Lagos.
