Anthony Joshua is reportedly being lined up to make his US debut in 2019, and may not fight on April 13 at Wembley Stadium.
The 29-year-old agreed a two-bout deal with the national arena earlier this year, but could scrap the second date in order to take a clash against unbeaten American contender Jarrell Miller at Madison Square Garden in New York.
According to BoxingScene, Joshua could move away from the April 13 date and instead reappear in June at MSG, while promoter Eddie Hearn is “seriously considering” replacing him by staging Amir Khan vs Kell Brook at Wembley.
Khan and Brook look likely to meet next spring following the latter’s underwhelming performance against Michael Zerafa, which seems to have lured his long-time rival into facing him.
Meanwhile – with Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury headed in the direction of a rematch to resolve their controversial draw – AJ has been left without a big-name opponent for his next bout.
It was thought by some to be inevitable that Joshua would end up rematching Dillian Whyte in April – assuming he beats Dereck Chisora this weekend.
However, the heavyweight champion was in attendance to watch Canelo Alvarez KO Rocky Fielding in New York at the weekend and is now being touted to make his own stateside debut against “Big Baby” Miller.
The undefeated American is best known for his trash-talking persona, though he is yet to test himself against any contender remotely near world level.
Joshua recently claimed Wilder was his number one target for 2019.
On his next opponent, AJ said: “In my head, it is Wilder.
“In terms of figures, it is a lot more lucrative than what he was fighting Fury for.
“Wilder should really consider this offer. I’m not chasing Wilder, it is not that I am desperate, but I’m just saying that both our schedules are free.
“He hasn’t got no mandatory. I haven’t either.”
But with Wilder looking increasingly likely to rematch Fury, that fight looks unlikely to be made for April and it seems Joshua could now be set for a New York date.
