Jonathan: Wamakko deserves second term

The President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, has said that a former Governor of Sokoto State and gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, deserves to be reelected because he performed creditably well in his first term.
Jonathan, who spoke at the presentation of Wamakko in Sokoto on Wednesday, said the former governor had an outstanding tenure between 2007 and 2011.

He said: “We believe he is doing well. It is quite a challenging period for all of us.
“But with the support of all Nigerians, we will succeed. We have worked with the former governor and he is reliable.
“We had commissioned various projects here and we will come back and do the same.”
Jonathan said the February 18, 2012 gubernatorial election provides his administration with the opportunity of proving that it is serious with the one man, one vote mantra.
He said: “We have to stick to the one man, one vote rule that guarantees a free and fair election.”
Jonathan, who also visited the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, said: “The Federal Government will not fail Nigerians as it will give priority to their needs and aspirations.
“We are here in Sokoto because of the election that is coming up in the state and we are here to thank you for your sustained leadership roles in the state and Nigeria.
“It is not easy, especially during trying moments like now, and the Sultan has shown courage, vision, mission and focus.”
