The Chairman of the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission, Alhaji Sani Ahmed, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of accreditation and voting in Saturday’s council poll in the state.
Ahmed told the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse on Saturday that everything worked according to plans.
He said that enough election materials were delivered to the polling units on schedule, adding that voting also started in the units at the appropriate time.
He said: “Based on the reports we received, so far, so good.
“The exercise was conducted peacefully.”
The chairman added that there was no report of outbreak of violence in any part of the state as at the time of counting of votes.
Meanwhile, counting of votes in the Saturday’s council poll in Jigawa State commenced on schedule in most polling units as a result of low turn-out of voters.
In Guri, Kirfi, Kirkasam, Auyo and Birniwa Local Government Areas, counting of votes at the polling units level was concluded at about 2pm.
In Kazaure, Yankwashi, Gwiwa and Roni Local Government Areas, counting of votes in some of the polling units was also concluded on schedule,
In Dutse metropolis and neighbouring communities, NAN reports that counting of votes commenced at about 3pm in most of the polling units under the strict supervision of security agents.
