Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the relentless bombings of worship places and other targets by mass murderers in the country must be halted decisively else it may produce consequences beyond the control of anyone.
Reacting to the weekend suicide bomb attacks on St. Andrews Protestant Church located within the Command and Staff College, Jaji in Kaduna, in a statement by his Media Office in Abuja, the former vice president noted with sadness that mass murderers and their sponsors were posing a fatal threat to the unity of the country.
For this reason, he said, national leaders must speak with one voice and common concern to defeat these mass murderers, which according to him, poses the greatest danger yet to the existence of Nigeria’s existence.
The Turaki Adamawa said persistent attacks on worshippers in a country with deep religious sensitivity were a matter of national urgency that demands action rather than rhetoric.
He particularly advised members of the community to expose suspicious elements among them for the good of society, warning that harbouring the mass murderers was an ill wind that blows nobody any good.
Abubakar also urged for improved rapport between the security agents and members of the community, which he said, was necessary in exposing and defeating mass murderers and their agenda.
He, however, called for increased vigilance on the part of security agents because mass murderers also try to take advantage of security lapses or poor judgement of those entrusted to defeat their wicked agenda.
According to him, as security agents evolve strategies to fight agents of mass murder, these enemies of peace may also look for loopholes in security to strike.
Abubakar also warned that the unity of Nigeria was non-negotiable, adding that the deliberate mass murder of people for no just cause, must be stopped before it plunges the country into calamity.
He condoled with the families of all those who may have been killed or maimed in the attack.
