The International Olympic Committee has warned the World Baseball Softball Confederation for removing of Israeli flag and name plate at its congress in Tunisia.
The Tunisia Baseball Softball Federation, which hosted the first inaugural WSBC congress in June, was handed a six month suspension for the removal of Israeli flag.
A statement by the IOC said: “Following the recommendation by the IOC task force, the IOC Executive Board decided to issue a warning to the WBSC regarding this incident to ensure that a similar situation is not repeated in the future.
“This was in view of the critical importance of maintaining respect for all members of the Olympic Movement and upholding the Olympic values at all times.”
According to the statement, the IOC President, Thomas Bach, described the warning as a clear signal that the IOC will not accept any form of discrimination.
It added that the WSBC was cooperating with the IOC inquiry and had already taken steps to ensure that such incident did not happen again.
The statement said the body has regulations in place to prevent discrimination.
It stated that the body had further tightened these measures to ensure there was no risk of a similar occurrence involving any future host cities.
It noted that the incident might affect WBSC’s campaign to regain its place in the Olympic programme at Tokyo 2020.
