Insecurity: Jonathan addresses nation on Tuesday

President Goodluck Jonathan will address the nation at 7pm on Tuesday (today),
The address will be aired on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority, the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria and the Voice of Nigeria.
According to a statement on Tuesday afternoon by presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, other stations were advised to hook up to the Federal Government-owned news stations for the benefit of their viewers and listeners.
There are, however, fears that the President’s address could be to declare state of emergency in some of the Northern states where there have been serious security breaches.
Among the flash points are Borno, Yobe and Nasarawa States.
Over 40 policemen were killed in Borno and Yobe States in a space of two days last week by insurgents.
Earlier on Tuesday, the President had met with the Governors of Yobe and Borno States, Ibrahim Geidam and Kashim Shettima.
Details of the meeting were, however, not disclosed to newsmen.
Geidam simply told newsmen: “We discussed the current security situation in our state and that’s all.”
Shettima said: “Well, we are basically here to cross pollinate our ideas with Mr. President on how to move the nation forward.
“That’s in a nutshell what brought us here to cross fertilise our ideas with Mr. President.”
Asked about the security situation in his state, Shetimma replied: “It is stable but I have repeatedly said it is a temporary eclipse in Borno.
“We shall start shinning again very soon, don’t worry.
“We shall get over it.”
President Jonathan also met with the country’s service chiefs and other top level security chiefs on Tuesday.
It will be the third of such meetings in five days.
The President last week had to cut short his trip to South Africa and Namibia following the killings in Borno and Nasarawa States.
