The Chief Imam of Bodija Estate Mosque, Ibadan, Oyo State, Alhaji Abdulahkeem Afuye, has advised political leaders and Muslims to imbibe the lessons of the Ramadan and move closer to God.
Afuye gave the advice on Friday during the Eld-el-Fitr celebration organised by the Muslim community.
He said the lessons of the Ramadan had taught many how to relate with people and move closer to God.
He said: “Let us transfer all the lessons we learnt from the Ramadan to our children and also teach them how to show love to others.
“Let us also live in peace and harmony with our sisters and brothers, including Christians.”
The Chief Imam also urged all politicians to exhibit the fear of God in everything they do and fulfill their electoral promises.
Afuye said: “If politicians have the fear of God, they will not embezzle public funds neither will they be selfish while citizens’ welfare will be paramount to them.”
The Publicity Secretary of the Bodija Muslim Community, Alhaji AbdulRaman Balogun, also urged Muslims to live in peace with their neighbours.
Balogun further advised politicians to be tolerant and eschew violence in their political engagements.
He urged politicians to keep their promises to the electorate, saying that was the only way they could please Allah.
