An Abuja High Court has fixed April 30, 2013 for hearing in the suit filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission against two officials of Abuja Municipal Area Council, Patrick Pillar and Lugard Edegbe, over alleged land scam.
The two accused persons are being prosecuted by the anti-graft agency before Justice Goodluck Ogakwu for their roles in corruptly allocating the same plot of land that had been allotted to Fine Trust Academy to their relations and thereby conferring corrupt advantage on themselves.
The accused persons were officials of the Abuja Municipal Area Council between 1995 and 2002.
The first accused, Patrick Pilla, was an Assistant Director with the Presidential Implementation of Alienation of Federal Government Landed Properties.
Justice Ogakwu had taken the plea of the accused persons on February 12, 2013 and admitted them to bail in the sum of N5 million, with one surety in like sum.
The surety must be a Director in the Federal Civil Service.
The two-count charge reads: “That you Patrick Pillar(m) and Lugard Edegbe (now at large)(m) on or about the month of July 2000 while being Zonal Land Officer and Secretary rural land adjudication committee in Abuja Municipal area council Abuja conspired to use your said positions to confer corrupt advantage upon relation of Patrick Pillar by causing the title documents of plot SS 1 at Jikwoyi extension 111 to be made in favor of Pax Education Resource a company owned by Patrick Pillar’s Cousin (Joseph Jande) knowing fully that the said plot has earlier been allocated to Fine trust academy and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 26 and punishable under section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and other Related Act 2000.
“That you Patrick Pillar(m) and Lugard Edegbe(m)( now at large) on or about the month of July 2000 at Abuja while being public Officers as Zonal Land Officers and Secretary rural land adjudication committee at Abuja Municipal Area Council used your said Office to confer unfair advantage upon relative by causing title documents of plot SS1 of Jikwoyi Extension 111 to be issued in favor of Pax Education Resource a company owned by Patrick Pillar’scousin(Joseph Jande) knowing fully that the plot has been allocated to Fine trust academy and you thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Act 2000.”
