How MTN aided Boko Haram – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said MTN aided the activities of Boko Haram with its failure to disconnect millions of unregistered users in Nigeria.
Buhari said this on Tuesday when he received the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, in Abuja.
He said by failing to disconnect the unregistered users, MTN provided the Boko Haram terrorists the opportunity to carry out their nefarious activities.
The company has since been slammed with a fine of N780 million.
At a joint news conference with Zuma on Tuesday, Buhari said: “The concern of the Federal Government was basically on the security, not the fine imposed on the MTN.
“You know how the unregistered GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) are being used by terrorists.
“That was why NCC (Nigerian Communications Commission) asked the MTN, Glo and the rest of them to register GSM.
“Unfortunately MTN was very slow and contributed to the casualties.”
MTN has since deposited N50 million with the NCC as part of the fine for the infraction.
