The Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board has dismissed as false social media reports on the death of a female patient at General Hospital, Daura due to negligence.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that news had gone viral that one Zahrau Danjuma died in the hospital.
Danjuma was said to have been brought to the hospital for excessive bleeding as a result of miscarriage died due to negligence.
The report claimed that the woman was admitted and recommended for blood transfusion, but that a hospital staff infused her with the wrong blood type and she died.
However, the General Manager of the board, Dr. Sabiu Liadi, dismissed the report as absolutely false.
Laidi, who spoke through the board’s Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Kabir-Ahmed, told NAN on Friday in Katsina that the hospital did not receive any such patient on the day the incident was said to have happened.
He said: “We made our independent investigation on the matter to ascertain its authenticity, and found out that it was false.
“No patient attended antenatal or postnatal care at the facility bearing that name on the so called date.”
According to Liadi, the board also contacted the Hospital Friends Committee, a voluntary group set up to monitor hospitals by communities, and it also said the information is untrue.
The General Manager added that the hospital also conducted an internal investigation to ascertain the veracity of the report and found out that nothing of such happened.
He said: “There was no patient bearing that name both on the admission and discharge register at the facility.
“There was also no patient brought as a result of miscarriage that died either at the maternity or female ward during the period in question.

“We therefore urge the public to disregard the fake news, which is intended to tarnish the image of the hospital, board and the state government.”
The general manager said that the government recently employed 94 health professionals, including medical doctors, nurses, laboratory scientists and pharmacists to boost the manpower strength of hospitals for effective service delivery.
