It was a horrific sight on Thursday in Tundun-Fulani, Bwari Area Council of Abuja as a tenant’s son locked up the landlady, popularly known as Mama Moses, her daughter and three grandchildren and set them ablaze.
The five of them were burnt beyond recognition.
The incident, which started unfolding at about 11pm on Thursday, gave the people of the area sleepless night as all efforts to rescue the family did not succeed as the tenant’s son had used heavy padlocks to secure the apartment.
The only person that escaped was the mother of the boy, who committed the arson.
The house was said to have been sufficiently soaked in petrol by the aggrieved tenant’s son.
Our correspondent gathered that when the boy, simply identified as Sunday, set the house ablaze, he was monitoring what was happening from outside the compound to ensure that nobody escaped.
After he was sure that the people could no longer survive, Sunday then proceeded to Bwari Police Station to report himself.
Investigation revealed that Sunday had a quarrel with the landlady two days before the incidence and vowed to deal with the family ruthlessly.
Further investigations revealed that he was about 18 years old and belonged to a cult group in the area.
It was learnt that several boysmany boys between ages 14 and 18 in that area belong to one cult group or the other in the area, a development which has become a concern to the people of Tundun-fulani area in Bwari.
The police had yet to comment on the incident officially as at press time.
