The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board said it had remitted N1.7 billion to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria as part payment for the Hajj seats allocated to the state.
The Executive Secretary of the board, Malam Abba Yakubu, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Tuesday.
Yakubu said the money represented 50 per cent of the total Hajj fares for the 5,612 intending pilgrims from the state.
Yakubu said the payment was made on Monday in compliance to NAHCON’s directive to all state pilgrims welfare boards across the country.
According to him, the board has commenced workshop for selected Islamic scholars who would train prospective pilgrims on Hajj rites.
The executive secretary said the participants had been directed to follow strictly the training manual developed by the board to ensure uniformity in the training of intending pilgrims.
Yakubu added that the training for intending pilgrims would be conducted in 33 centres across the state.
